Late arrival with only one payment path.
Traveler background
A first-time traveler was landing after 22:00, planned to use ride-hailing from the airport, and expected an international card to cover the hotel deposit.
Original plan
The plan depended on Alipay working immediately after landing, mobile data being stable, the hotel accepting the same card flow, and the traveler finding the address in English.
What could break
- Card binding or SMS verification could fail on airport Wi-Fi.
- Ride-hailing could be hard to complete without a verified payment method.
- The hotel address and deposit process were not saved in Chinese.
- No low-tech fallback was prepared for the first hour.
What changed
- Added WeChat as a second app path and kept a small RMB cash backup.
- Saved the hotel name, address, phone, and arrival note as offline screenshots.
- Mapped airport metro and taxi fallback options before departure.
- Messaged the hotel to confirm late arrival and foreign passport handling.
The first night no longer depended on one app working perfectly. The traveler had two payment paths, offline hotel details, and a transport fallback.
